Good grief. NO. The doctor has better things to do besides poke around in your vagina when he's suppose to be working on your big toe. With an entire surgical team waiting to assist, do you think the doctor will come up with some crazy idea to do a PAP for no reason and then convince the rest of his colleagues that they should go along with it and not tell. There is something called a Medical Code of Conduct and Medical Ethics. Doing an unnecessary PAP on a patient that has not given permission or FURTHERMORE, performing a PAP on a sedated patient could result in loss of medical license and/or criminal charges! This is ridiculous. Get over yourself. Trust your doctor and if you can't, find a new one. Unauthorized/unjust pap smears don't usually happen. If that doesn't work for you, go to counseling. It sounds to me like you might have some psychological issues about your body that you may need to work through.

I am a former Operating Room Nurse. A Pap Smear is not a routine procedure during surgery. The only time I've EVER seen a Pap Smear being done during surgery was when a woman requested it be done at the same time as her gynaecological surgery.

Talk to your doctor and explain your fears to them. If they say they want to do a Pap Smear while you're asleep, ask them to please wait to do the smear until you're back in the office for follow-up. It is your right to refuse to have a Pap Smear done while you are asleep.

Any procedure, including a Pap Smear that is performed when you are under anaesthetic should appear on the consent form that you sign giving permission for the surgery. The only exception to that rule is if an emergency comes up during surgery that has to be dealt with immediately to save the patient's life or limb. Pap Smears wouldn't apply as emergency procedures.

You're going in for surgery! Why would a harmless pap smear scare you? If anything should scare you, it ought to be the surgery...
If it's obgyn surgery, then a pap should have been done by now. In fact, if you're going in for surgery, you're way beyond a pap at this stage.
Make sure you put it into writing that YOU DO NOT CONSENT TO A PAP and make sure that you AND your doctor sign it.

The doctor would never perform any unnecessary procedure, especially a pap smear. For one thing, doctors don't want to spend more time than necessary doing any procedure. I'm studying to work in surgery, and trust me, no doc will ever perform anything that is no necessary during surgery.

The Pap smear is in basic terms a screening attempt and given a thought of abnormalities yet u can pattern all of the cells on the cervix so there could be areas with greater abnormalities that its ignored. A colposcopy is comparable in examination ie a speculum examination yet they paint a chemical on the cervix to take place strange cells and then take samples type those sites. If some thing comes back strange relies upon on teh type of abnormality yet often a biopsy is achieved to get rid of the abnomral tissues.. DOnt be too scared we deliver minor abnormalities for colpsocopy and maximum are very treatale and thats the rationalization we do smears.. to get the lesions formerly they turn nasty ..

What kind of surgery? That would be a crazy thing just to tack onto a separate surgery, especially since it's a procedure so easily done in an office visit. Make sure to talk to your surgeon beforehand, if you're very worried. Make it clear you don't want a pap smear. I think you have to consent to every aspect of surgery, and sign forms and everything. Read carefully so you know what you're authorizing.

Pap smears are done when you are awake. I see no reason for a Doctor to preform one while you are under anesthesia.
and also. The Doctor isn't the only person on the room when you get surgery.
There are nurses, anesthesiologist etc etc. So I don't think it would happen with a whole room full of people watching your Doctor.

When you go in for surgery they have to give you informed consent forms to fill out. THey will also give you information about what they will be doing to you/risks/alternatives, etc. But under no circumstances should they give you a Pap smear without your knowledge or consent.. that would be against the law..(for sake of better explanation)..dont' worry...
good luck!

So you don't care about the doctor cutting on you, but you DO care about getting swabbed? That's strange, in my opinion.
