There are many possible solutions but the one that seems the simplest is to reinstall windows.

I would do a "repair install" if you have the Windows 2000 CD. It wont over-write your personal files. It just fixes / replaces the OS files. Or take the hard drive out and install it as a secondary drive in another computer and get your files that way. They make adapters for laptop hard drives to desktop PCs which are very inexpensive.

Get to a computer that is online. Download Knoppix LIVE CD off the web. Start your laptop with the BIOS sequence ( something like press DEL to enter Bios or hold down ESC while turning on the laptop etc. etc. ). In the BIOS, change the boot order to BOOT first Device = CD.
Put in the Knoppix CD, and reboot to Knoppix.

You now have total control over your laptop. If you have internet, Knoppix often finds it. In any event, if you have a CD drive that BURNS, you can go into your files, and burn them immediately to CD ( or DVD etc. ). Or, you can network to another computer, and send them over to another machine. Or, you can connect your internet connection, and send the files to yourself ( gmail.com gives you free 27 GigaBytes of space , etc. )

Knoppix, being Linux, can see ALL drives and files and formats, including all Windows files, so that there is no problem with non-NTSF boot ups or conflicts.

hope this helps get you going... !

You need files from your install cd for win 2000. If you know what files you need, you can download them from Microsoft. Or you do a repair install from your win2000 cd.
