They seem to get away with serious crimes ordinary people would not.

$$$ makes the world go round, which is a big part of it. Another part of it is stereotyping. If some rich guy standing before a judge is likely to be forgiven b/c he just made a mistake and can be rehabilitated while a poor guy will have the book thrown at him. This is just the perception society has of these different groups, and it's pretty sad and screwed up. Especially since people born rich a lot of times have very little respect for anyone else since they've never had to work for anything before.
