If you are pre-med, you are going to have to learn to test well, because you will have to take the MCAT when you apply to med schools. There are courses you can take, you pay and take a real course, that will help you learn to raise your SAT scores, and later your MCAT scores. Poor testing is something you can overcome, and you'll definitely need good scores for applying for a decent med school after college....you'll also need a decent college to graduate from, it's competitive to the max! I suggest you look for a course offered in your area, pay and take it, and retake the SATs until you get good scores.

Yes, as a matter of fact there are good colleges that don't even use the SAT or ACT as an admission standard. One of those, Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin is a top liberal arts college.

But even if you are looking to go somewhere larger than say, Lawrence, you can still get into good schools with a decent SAT score. Look at large public universities, since there test score average is sometimes lower. And these schools still give an excellent education.

Simply put, your college admission doesn't hinge solely on your SAT or ACT scores.

If you are a women, Mount Holyoke College makes the SAT optional, and it is an excellent all-women's school. They do not have a Pre-med major however, but you can take classes that will contribute to Medical school.

Definitely check out smaller colleges and universities. The ones with fewer applicants tend to rely less on standardized test scores and more on essays and your entire application. It makes sense- if you have a ton of applications for a few seats, you're gonna have to cut people somehow. My lovely little college, St. John's College of Annapolis, didn't even have a space on the application for SAT scores when I went.

It depends on what you want to go to school for, while a lot of colleges look at your GPA some care more about your SAT scores.... what do you want to major in?

Another good college that has lost interest in SAT scores is Knox.

Don't sweat it. With a 3.9, you just have to at least pass.
