Requirement prerequisites to get into med school:

1 year of Biology or Zoology (with lab)
1 year of Inorganic Chemistry (with lab)
1 year of Organic Chemistry (with lab)
1 year of Physics (with lab)

What exactly do they mean by 1 year? What is 1 year equivalent to in college? I don't get it.

A prerequiste is something that you need to take before taking the next class. Example: Algebra 1 is a prerequisite to Algebra 2. 1 Year would be 2 semesters in college. Like the fall and then the spring. So in order to get into med school, you must have taken 2 semesters of biology/zoology, 2 of inorganic chem, 2 of organic chem, and 2 of physics. Good Luck!

It means an academic year. Just like a year of high school doesn't mean 12 months, rather it means 9 months or so.

Some colleges use semesters, so that would be 2 sememsters;
some use quarters, so that would be 3 quarters.

One of your other respondents said you need a passing grade. Ridiculous. You need an A in all of these. They've told you it's a prerequisite. Get the B in English or something. A single B in any term of any of these four year-long sequences will keep you out of the best med schools, and two B's will keep you out of most all of them.

One year simply means two semester of the lower level classes. For example, at USC, one would take the first two levels of biology (120 and 220), chemistry (105A and 105B) and so on.

I'd say one year means two terms, and you'd better do more than just pass. It might be helpful if you could also leap tall buildings in a single bound.....

If you don't know what one year means, please (for the love of God) don't try to become a doctor. Please go into a profession where you can't hurt anyone.
