I'm not American, but if you check this out:

This is the cheapest external hard drive enclosure Newegg.com sell ($12.09). You just need to install a compatible hard drive in there and it'll meet your requirements.

Newegg.com sell many more enclosures - just search their site for "external enclosure 3.5" to try and remove as many of the 2.5" ones as possible. Of course, shop around though - this is just the first US site I thought to check for good prices.

I don't know if that's any help, but I think you'll get much better value for money buying your own drive and installing it in an enclosure. If you buy a sealed unit, you won't get as much capacity and it'll cost much nearer your budget.

As far as the hard drive goes, it depends what your priority is. The larger the capacity, the better performance you'll get because the data is packed more tightly on the drive - this reduces the distance the head travels and improves performance. If you want a really quiet drive, I recommend the Samsung SpinPoint drives. I have one and it's silent.

I hope that helps!

I would suggest what i got.. I bought a vantec Nexstar 2.5 drive enclosure, for about $20 then I purchased a OEM 60gig 2.5 laptop drive for $60.. The case is so small i can put it in my shirt pocket, the USB cable it comes with powers the drive but incase you need an extra power it comes with an additional USB passthru tailed cable which not only provides additional power but i can attach a usb device right to the cable so i dont loose that usb slot...

WORKS PERFECT...

email me i have pics of what it looks like.

Radio Shack has over 200 items in that catagory. Just go to www.radioshack.com and in the search box type external hard drives. Hope this helps, Larry (Radio Shack 0-9590)
