You can pay to get a better location in the listing as a sponsored site. However, you can improve your search engine placement in several ways. Learn to put appropriate 'metatags' in your web page so that search engines can find the key words easily. Go to the homepage of Yahoo (also Google, etc.) and request for your site to be listed. It will be found by the autobots eventually anyway. The more links that other people have to your page, and the more it is visited through those links will improve your placement on most search engines as well. Get friends to put links to your site on their pages. Put a link to your site in your question above.
