It sounds like a mid-life crisis. If you had an otherwise good marriage and you want him back, it can happen. You just have to be patient and be prepared for a difficult time. He will likely not admit that this is what is happening, and he will say and do some more hurtful things in the process. If you think your marriage is worth saving, go to counseling - even if he won't go with you.

He could have planned it long enough before moving out. There could be two possibilities to this guy's actions:
1) He's having an affair and is secretly planning to move out but needed time to muster courage.
2) He's not having any affair. Communication between him and his wife has broken down drastically. He probably gave his wife time and time again to improve on the relationship but little was done. So, walking out on her and the family was probably caused by a drastic occurrence (the final straw).

The bottomline is, the man walked out on his family because he felt that he had tolerated enough and he had been very very unhappy for a long time.

Most of the time a man does not just leave to get on with his live, so to speak. He leaves because of someone else and unaddressed problems in the marriage. He has chosen to take the cowardly way out of this marriage. This will greatly affect the kids. Especially at their age. The wife needs to protect herself and get some legal counselling on this. He might have some plans up his sleeves that she does not know of.

Usually when people make sudden moves like that they aren't thinking with their heads. May just be a mid life crisis, either way, he's made his decision and even though it's hard you must accept it. Go on with your lives and remember Karma, what goes around comes around. Don't let his actions stop you from being the best you possible!!

Best Wishes!!

He was probably thinking that if he left his wife who nags him every night for one that nags him every other night he'd be doing a lot better. And really if he only took half the bank account and not much more he doesn't really sound like that bad a guy. Hopefully he finds a kinky 20 year old.

Sounds like he is having a mid-life crisis, and that there is something out there that he is already pursuing -- and it is NOT his desire to stay with the person who has raised the children to this point and stayed with him.

Sadly, this is quite common, and it is a sign of immaturity -- and these men are just not worth staying around or waiting for.

Sounds like it's time to sit down and talk, which I'm guessing hasn't happened in a long time.
