It's absolutely, gotta be from the Mid-South. We have "Ugly as hammered mud, Goofy as a stomped 'possum," and other colorful terms. My Gramma used to say that and her friends from the other coasts didn't know what she meant.

i have never heard this term...i have always heard "ugly as homemade soap" because well...homemade soap is pretty ugly... i guess
