A company in Columbus Ohio told their employees they could not take a lunch break or any type of break today because they were too busy to allow it. These were office people in an accounting departmet.

Check your laws. By most state laws you are allowed one 30 minute break after six hours of continuous work and 2 15 minutet Non-paid breaks. Most employers will not allow the 15 minute breaks as most people take them in smaller increments thru-out the day anyway. Check your state employment laws. They are to be posted at ALL work locations. Maybe in an office or lunch room or ny your time clock. That IS the law. They are to be posted and readily available for all to see at any time without question. Good Luck

Sorry, you are out of luck in Michigan. I found this on the Michigan Department of Labor web site: Are employees required by law to have a meal or break period? Agency: Labor & Economic Growth Employees under 18 years of age may not work more than 5 continuous hours without a 30 minute uninterrupted rest period. There are no requirements for breaks, meal or rest periods for employees over 18 years of age. Where an employer has a break, meal or rest period policy, the employee must be completely relieved of work duties and free to pursue his or her own interest to not be considered work time (Cherney v. West Michigan Cleaners 84-3823).

I believe they have to allow lunch breaks but not necessarily other breaks. Make sure they pay you and don't dock your check if you work through.
