Tiger - the singularly most beautiful and impressive creature on this planet.

Octopus - considering its closest cousins are slugs and snails, the Octopus has done pretty well for itself. Almost-human eyes and an IQ up there with the mammals. Can solve problems and learn abstract shapes. Can also squeeze its entire body through a keyhole and change colour faster than a ....

Chameleon - picked not for its colour change but for its independent swivelling eyes. How does its brain manage to decode to two images - does it use split-screen or windows technology?

Arctic Tern - the perfect flying machine and athlete. Migrates 22,000 miles a year from pole to pole. Mates, sleeps and feeds on the wing.

Aye Aye - Ugly but cute. One of the weirdest mammals around. Huge eyes and ears and one long middle finger for picking grubs out of holes in wood.

Seahorse - Also in the 'so ugly it's cute category' but it is also the best father around - not only caring for newborn seahorses but carrying the unborn ones too - what a guy!

Orangutang - intelligent but laid back. An ape with dignity - unlike those childish chimps and chest-beating gorillas.

Sent to you purring loudly, I am Chris in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 in human years, and our two cats, Johann and Scooter, have added their names with two very distinct paw prints in the original.)
