first nothing to worry ur broadband will work wirelessly, however these things will help.
if the signal strength is weak ie it affects the reception/transmission speed indirectly this means u might experience the net speed to be a little slow. If the signal strength is good then no problem.
Next if security is the issue, then u can ask anyone to configure the network settings for you. by default u normally dont have a pasword etc, turn on the wireless radio and internet ready correct. If there are other devices or laptops tat make use of wireless connectivity then they can also connect to the net using ur broadband. So just tell someone that ''i dont want other devices to connect to my wireless network or router and share my broadband and theyll configure ur computer'' now if anyone wishes to share or use ur broadband they will need to enter a password which wil be with u. So the security issues are also resloved now and now there is nothing to worry at all. enjoy the broadband and wireless connectivity

I'm on wireless right now. And it works great. I only get about half of the speed I get from connecting a hard line to my modem (or even the router itself), but 50Mbps isn't that bad, either.
Some of the problems you will encounter with wireless networking, is interference, and "stolen" connections.
Interference isn't that bad. My mother and brother live in a VERY old house, (where the asbestos was only recently removed before they moved in) and their signal gets weaker as they get further away from the modem, but I've never seen it below 30Mbps at the far corners. I live in the barracks on a base, with TONS of other people using wireless networking, and I can go to the far end of my building (twice the length of a typical house) and still get about 45 Mbps at the lowest.
"Stolen" connections are slightly worse. When you're setting up your wireless router, be sure to require a password to connect. And do NOT use the same password to alter the router settings. One of my neighbors set up a wireless connection with the same password to connect and alter the settings. She then gave the password to a few friends so they could use the connection from their rooms. One of them managed to change the router settings, and change the connection password, so only THEY could connect. She didn't figure it out for two weeks.
"Stolen" connections aren't really all that bad. You can still connect to the internet, but you may have reduced bandwidth, since you're sharing it with others. I actually gave other people my connection password, and they would each pay a portion of my bill. Now if you live in a house or large apartment, chances are your neighbors aren't going to get your signal, so this probably doesn't apply to you.
But if you suddenly find people parking in front of your house on a daily basis, and sitting in their cars with a laptop, you've probably got an unwanted person using your connection. And yes, it is possible that they can break into your computer much easier this way.
So when you set it up, be sure to protect it with a password. If you do this, you should be okay.

I had a lot of problems when we first went wireless and could only get one PC to connect and that with difficulty. We just got new PCs and they work like a dream on the same network. Our old PC was about 6 years old so it could be age / capability of the PC hardware is a relevant issue to whether to go wireless or not.

I say YES! but first let me tell you that if you aredoing it threw yahoo as in you have their modem already and have had their service for a year or longer then you should call them up and tell them you want to be "rerated' to a lower price for a Faster speed/wireless connection using their 2WIRE Router or Gateway.
If you have been steady paying and with them for a while they can reduce your charges and get you the setup for almost nothing.
try that and then make sure you have at least a wireless "G "adapter, I have Belkin and it works fine.
Linksys is a bit complicated.
then go wireless and decide if Microsoft/or other will control the settings as that can screw things up with several controlling it and also make sure if you have a network to go wireless do NOT enable: "INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING". that will make you pull your hair out trying to figure out why you cant connect to the interent (also dont forget to uninstall your currant broadband settings after dont installing a wirelss connection, it makes it a bit easier to manage.
good luck!
