Garlic is a natural antibiotic. If you take some as often as possible, your bug should clear outta there a little faster (if taken at the first sign of coming down with something, it can often prevent it from taking hold).
It is best consumed raw, which can be a rough hazing ritual for the uninitiated and the initiated alike. Below are some ways to do it, and you should take AT LEAST one full clove at a time--more if you can tolerate it, and about five per day (at least!).
WAYS TO GET RAW GARLIC INTO YOUR SYSTEM:
- Finely mince it or crush it and put it into salad dressings
- Cut it into pill-size portions and swallow with a LOT of water to prevent gagging
- Hardy souls may want to try just chewing it raw and swallowing it, but it isn't for the faint-hearted and each head of garlic that you buy is different--some are somewhat on the sweet and delicate side but some are....well...extremely RAW GARLICY

Well it sounds like your getting capsules but when I get sick I eat raw garlic cloves. I wait until after I'm sick and after the garlic leaves my breath before thinking about kissing my girlfriend I Winona who I love. It is very good for you, it clears you right up. If you put it in the refrigerator the molecules will slow down making it less potent. I haven't heard about weather or not if causes stomach ulcers but that same method might help that. Just do what your already planning on doing and get the capsules.

Keeps annoying people at bay.
Seriously, I had a really bad sore throat and just to see if garlic really works, I swallowed about 5 cloves. (Cut them up small and ate with bread to avoid throwing up.)
Next day my throat wasn't sore at all.
Guess it really works.
By the way, previously, I took garlic pills with no noticable result, which is why I did the experiment in the first place.
Hope this helps.

Raw garlic is used by some people to treat acne and there is some evidence that it can help in managing high cholesterol levels. It can even be effective as a natural mosquito repellent.
Garlic is also known to have a powerful antioxidant effect. Antioxidants help to protect the body against damaging "free radicals".

It's antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal.
I take it when my lymph nodes swell up and I get fatigued (always the start of a cold for me), and it really helps. Especially for sore throats.
I totally CRAVE garlic quite often... and I make sure I get a lot of it when I'm feeling run down. It kinda makes me sleepy, so I have a bunch at dinner. I usually make a raw pesto and slather it on noodles, or crush several large cloves into spaghetti sauce after it's done cooking.

When a couple of my children picked up worms from paying in a public sandbox in Europe, we tried prescribed remedies - they didn't work ' the doc said these things take time. Someone told us to try garlic cloves. We gave them one in the evening, one in the morning, and the worms came out in their stools, and we saw no more sign mof the worms from then on.
I find that eating garlic in my salad (just a clove scraped into the salad) helps keep colds away. Of course when I eat that, so does my wife so we don't "offend" eachother! lol
On the other hand I am extremely sceptic about "althernative medicine" ' have at times tended to believe in it, studied it a bit, tried it, but my gut feeling is that it is usually fraudulant. I see a difference between alternative medicine and using good foods, such as raw onions and garlic, or sometimes short term fasting, to help clean oneself up a bit. Lots of htings we can learn from those who push natural health, I just don't trust their roducts, I think they are making a fortune on stuff that really doesn't help.

Yes but you shouldn't be around people when you take the garlic.
Unless of course you are very anti social.

I try to aspire to a Vedic/Kosher diet, but when I feel weak I feel like garlic and/or onion are necessary (I use the garlic powder though because I cant get much fresh Kosher foods where I live)

Garlic in any form supports the circulatory system, but if you want to use garlic to fight off bacterial, viral or fungal disease, it is best taken in raw form. This is because the components which have anti-microbial action are destroyed in the drying process.
