I have had my lovely dwarf hammy Clover for a week now, and she knows me now. However, she still tries to bite when I pick her up. Is it her natural dwarfy personality? Or does she not trust me? Also, she won't chew her chew sticks I give her and I fear her teeth may get too long. What is the right size teeth for dwarfys? I don't want Clover to get overgrown teeth!!!!!!!!!

a week isnt that long. it can take a month or even longer with some hamms. dont wake her and try to pick her up or she may bite no matter how long it's been. let her walk on u while u sit on the couch so she can get used u to but make sure this is when she's been awake--probably late evening or early morning. make sure your hands are clean & free of food smells.

as for chew sticks--try a different kind. mine like greenies dog biscuits. if she needs it, she'll chew when she's ready. it's rare for young hamsters teeth to get overgrown so dont be too worried.

She probably doesn't trust you fully yet. The more that you handle her the less she will try to bite you. Ours don't try to bite us any more because they know that we aren't going to hurt them. They will chew on the stick or the cage to take care of their teeth.
