In developed countries, water pollution has gotten better in recent years (the 1980s through the present). However, it is getting worse and is a serious life-threatening problem in the Third World, where people have no choice but to drink and bathe in polluted water. As countries like China, India, Mexico, and Brazil become more industrialized, their water pollution is getting dramatically worse.

The Potomac river used to stink and the fishing was lousy. They cleaned it up that now they're saying the biggest pollutant is wild animal manure. Swimming is still prohibited.

Bottled water is more expensive than gasoline. That just shows how valuable clean water is.
