I used to live near Eugene, OR. Albany is a relatively small city, so if you're looking for a quiet, placid life, it's the place for you.
The main industry there is a pulp mill. You can drive right by it on I-5.
Check the website of the Albany Visitors' Association:

Or that of the Albany Chamber of Commerce:

Have a good time! Welcome to west central Oregon!

Personally, I would choose Eugene over Albany, but that's just me.
I lived halfway between the two for over 20 years, and since I was in same county as Albany, spent a lot of time there, also attended a community college there.

As small towns go, it's not too bad. Lacks a bit on shopping, but has all the basics, just no big mall or anything (has a small one that hardly earns the name). Have heard good things about the schools. And it has a number of really nice parks. Doesn't have much in the way of activities, comparatively anyway, but if you don't mind driving to Eugene or Portland for things, or don't care, then it's okay.

Honestly, I think it's a "ho-hum" town ... lots of better picks, unless you have a great job there or something.
