I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes at age 39, six years ago and this summer went on Lantus insulin once a day. I want to get completely off all the meds I am on. I want to talk to someone who has actually done it. Anyone out there a former user of insuling, glucophage and avandia who is now controlling it just with diet and exercise. I am soooo down about being on insulin and want to make some drastic changes. need advice. maybe even alternative medicine advice. thanks.

I personally have not had diabetes. I do know people who are and one is off of their medicine, the other used to take 100 units of insulin per day, he now just takes a shot once per week. He's done this through a nutritional program. Contact me if you want to learn more. I can also arrange to put you in touch with the latter person.

You can hear the latter persons testimony at (Uncle Lee):

Diabetes and Weight Loss: The Right Path
If you've got diabetes, losing weight can get you off insulin and other medications. But diet safely, with the help of experts

There's no question about it: If you're overweight and have type 2 diabetes, dropping pounds lowers your blood sugar, improves your health, and helps you feel better.

But before you start a weight loss plan, it's important to work closely with your doctor or diabetes educator - because while you're dieting, your blood sugar, insulin, and medications need special attention.

Make no mistake - you're on the right path. "No matter how heavy you are, you will significantly lower your blood sugar if you lose some weight," says Cathy Nonas, MS, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association and a professor at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City
