I also have bamboo growing in my back yard called Bambusa oldhamii. The common name is called Giant Timber Bamboo.

When it starts to turn yellow it usually means to much water or it needs lawn food. (super phosphate) to get the leaves green again.

Below is the site where I bought my bamboo from. They know all there is to know about bamboo. If yahoo answers can't help you I highly recommend you e-mail them for help

As long as the stem does not turn yellow and mushy your bamboo will be fine. Keep it out of direct sunlight as this can turn your bamboo yellow.
