I would only let him go to certain sites. 7 year olds don't need to search for things on the internet, they can ask their parents.

The only real 100% way to prevent children from getting into things they shouldn't on the internet is supervision. Nothing else you can use will be 100% and the internet can be a dangerous place for children.

You should set up an account on your computer for him and set it to the one that restricts almost ever thing then install Norton Internet Security and in Norton Internet Security go to parental controls and set is account on the computer to child, you will be presented with a list of categories to block. Norton Internet Security should ask you how often you want to update the block list, set it to something desirable to you.

This is what i did with my girl
Set up an account on your computer for your child.
set up explorer or your browser to:
http://yahooligans.yahoo.com/ as your default page
you can do this by clicking on tools then internet options.
right click on any grey part of your toolbar at the top of your browser next to the icons.
Untick the box next to address bar.
This procedure will limit what your son can do. There is little harm that can come to him at yahooligans. Try searching for yourself of something vulgar and see how limited the kiddies are.

As with watching TV, the best answer to this situation is to sit with your daughter and enjoy the Internet together. There is no harm in starting early as long as you make it an interesting and entertaining time, later, when she grows wings, you can rely on parental guidance software.

All good suggestions. You can do another thing: Ask him to stay away from the things you don't want him to see. You can then check using the history. This is probably the better way around it, if you trust him.

My son is 7 and he is only allowed on the computer when one of us is present but I think there is a nanny.com program that can help you.

I would suggest always keep the computer where you can see it, never ever let him go on it alone!
