how do i find out what version of internet exp i have?

I have windows ME

click help (on the top)
then click > about internet explorer
it will say "Version:___"

Oh my, get rid of ME; that is a horrible operating system. Anyway you need to get into C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer. Click on Internet Explorer. When that opens click on the tab that says Version. It will either start with a 5 or a 6 or a 7. They represent Internet Explorer 5.5, 6.0 and 7.0

Go to tools, choose "About Internet Explorer", Alternatively, click on Help
