I think they do all the paperwork in the Practice. Ordering the prescriptions, contacting hospitals, staff pay, that sort of stuff. My sister used to be one. I wish I'd listened to her when she was blathering on about what she did, then I could answer you with better accuracy.

allegedly for the day to day running of the surgery - deals with operational issues, clinical issues and other stuff like that, a significant part of the role is to strut around looking important

I know what you mean ,ours is the same ,you ring for an appointment and she wants to know whats wrong with you,if your that clever mrs get to uni and be a doctor!
