Absolutely.
You have to set it down in order to go out and meet someone to have kids with (it takes two).
You also probably want to put it away to do some other necessary activity involved with the process.

Actually Laptops were not meant to be used on your lap. It can get very warm and unpleasant after long use. There are no findings that using a laptop on your lap will affect your having children. Unless of course you have the misfortune of having a laptop with one of those faulty batteries and it explodes on your lap, burning up your family jewels...

You may want to take that laptop off your lap. Portable computers can heat up to 158 degrees inside. After an hour, that can raise the temperature of your testes by 3.6 degrees, nearly twice what it takes to harm fertility.
If you set it away from your testes you will be fine.

if it gets too hot it will have the same effect as a hot tub, which means it may kill some of the sperm that are currently in the testicles, but since you are making new sperm all the time I don't think it will do permanent damage. Years from now we might find out differently though...

HOWEVER, there are other health risks to putting a laptop on your lap.
they get very hot very fast and that can burn your skin and irritate it.

I'm an NREMT-B, and no, it does not. Sorry. There's no such things as a free vasectomy.
