Uninstall it and install AVG Anti-Virus instead, which is free AND works better.

Norton was good years ago, but they were bought by Symantec. Now they are virtually worthless.
Their software causes more problems that it solves.
Go to http://free.grisoft.com and download AVG antivirus and Ewido antispyware.
Uninstall Norton, install AVG.
It's free and better.

try uninstalling it then reinstalling from the original install files. Often this will give you the same original period again. Glitchy software, but I have seen many Norton products allow this.
