It might be a little sad that we have to go back this far, but I think our greatest president was Thomas Jefferson.

justin h -- To you, I can only remember Proverbs 14:7 "Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge."

In othe words, don't waste your time arguing with an idiot.

I agree that Polk was a good president because he extended our borders and I find Ronald Reagan to be a great recent president. I have to say(along with many others) that Washington was by far our greatest president. Not just because he was are first president, but because he prevented our country from ruining it self. He ended his presidency after his second term to prevent a monarchy and with one great speech he prevented the military from taking over. ( he also was the only president to receive a unanimous vote from the electoral college.)

FDR. He got us through the Great Depression and WWII, giving us hope and some of our greatest, most successful social programs. Without his leadership, thousands of our elderly and infirm would be in dire straights right now. I'm also a big fan of Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, and Teddy Roosevelt, our greatest conservation president. Actually, it's really hard to choose which is the best, especially if you're not a historian, so make them my top five.

Top 3 in no particular order.

1. George Washington because he was the first and was smart enough to know that becoming king was wrong.

2. Abe Lincoln-he dealt with the Civil War and got us back together.

3. Reagan-he took on evil (USSR) instead of bowing to it. He showed Americans that conservatism works. He worked on getting this country out of the mess Jimmy Carter put us in.

Tough call. Washington, Polk, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Reagan could easily top the list.

Jefferson was great. However, I am quite partial to FDR. I know it's cliche and all, but he really was a great politician and helped America turn around from the great depression.
