Our hamsters bore 7 young but they died or the adults ate them after only 2 days. Both the male and female are still inside the cage so we don't know which one killed or ate their young?

Don't listen to that Alf guy who said to jar em up and teach them a lesson. Hamsters, mother hamsters in particular, will eat their young if they smell human hands on it usually. Also, sometimes hamsters and other animals just do this. It is very saddening to hear your hamster story, but it is just nature and that is all i got for you.

please separate them so they dont have more babies. often hamsters who do this with one litter will repeat it and shouldnt breed again. there are many reasons this could happen & u will never know for sure which of them did it. sometimes it's because the mother is too young, sometimes the babies are sickly, sometimes the parents are stressed. r they syrian? syrians shouldnt be housed together at all & when breeding they r separated immediately after breeding rather than left together.

good luck

Usually it is the mother who goes psycho and does that. If she is a good mother, than she won't let the male around the babies if she sees or feels he is a threat.

Unfortunately nature is very brutal, and this is just one example. We used to raise lots of them for pet stores, and sometimes this happened. Unfortunate but true. I even had a purebred miniature schnauzer do this and I was devastated!!!!
