First thing - in my opinion - to open the windows (if possible all of them at the same time) for five minutes - three times a day.

But - as I underlined - only the first thing, but the most important of all.

I don't think you can beat a good smelling candle but it does not last. Neither do the other things. Since it is winter out, you can also put a dryer sheet on your heater vent for a fresh laundry scent.
However, if you want to rid your home of unwanted odors, try spraying some vinegar water on your carpets, upholstry and curtains. As it dries the odors disappear as well as the vinegar smell. Also, try some baking soda, as in your fridge, you can set a box a baking soda between the wall and your furniture, changing it every month. Then at the end of the month, pour the baking soda down your drains followed with some vinegar. This well boil out some of the gunk in your drain pipes and help freshen the smell that comes from the pipes also. I sprinkle some baking soda on my carpets about once a month, let it set for about 1/2 hour and vacuum.

Air Fresheners don't last. The fragrance is temporary.

If you get a high fragrant candle they will throw scent without even lighting them. When you do light them they throw more keeping the scent in the house longer. When using candles don't forget to check in on them and to blow them out when leaving or going to bed. Another alternative to candles is electric tart or candle warmers. A high fragrant tart will send off a good scent without having a flame to worry about (similar to a potpourri pot). It has a small dish for a tart and its easy to clean and replace the tart. Don't forget to unplug the warmer when leaving the house or going to bed.
Fragrant tarts can also be placed in dresser drawers, on closet shelves etc. and you can choose the fragrance that suits you.

Use candles. There's this thing called a candle warmer, they're about $5 at Wal-Mart and they work great. You don't have to light the candle, you just put it on the warmer and it melts it and it makes the whole house smell good.I live in a 2 BR 2 BA mobile home and I use 1 and it smells up my whole house.

i am a candle addict !!! i have tried every candle known to man !! some smell great and last a long time, some do not. i have had black soot streaks on my celings because of my constant candle burning !!! just had my house painted and started using scented oil burners. bath and body works has great fragrances. the oil burners come in a variety of colors and styles. you just add like 10-15 drops of your favorite scent and light an unscented tealight underneath and, wow !!!! it is stronger than any candle i've ever burned. i usually have to blow them out before the tealight finishes because it is so strong. my house still smells wonderful when i wake up in the morning.

Candles placed on a candle warmer. They are very cheap, you can get them at Wal-Mart. The candle last many times longer than if you were to burn them. When they stop smelling just let the cool and throw them in the garbage.

Personally, i use air fresheners because they are so easy to use, and candles dont really make the whole room smell good. Try Febreeze Air Effect- Summer breeze...it smells sooooo good. I use it in my bedroom.

I like incents personally but if you don't like something smoking then use something else, but remember incent smoke like hangs on your clothing so that has to be something that your ok with. Also it's really strong so I wouldn't light more then two depending on how big your house is.
