I've always been appalling at general knowledge. So I thought i'd ask:
What do you think are the top 10 things every person should know about world history, politics, music, art, humanities, science and maybe you can think of another topic too.

As in REALLY important things/people/events which have shaped the world we live in today.
Thanks!

american revolution was started over 4% tax rate (today it is 50%), lincoln didnt have a problem with slavery until his poll numbers started falling before his second election (read early first term speeches), U.S. blockaded japan in order to protect china - blockade was so successful that when japan bombed pearl harbor they only had 3 months of oil left, egyptian culture fell after they allowed a continuing influx of immigrants (egypt only one with stock-pile of grain), roman culture fell after they started dis-solving personal property rights (property was confiscated by govt. officials to use as bribes for army commanders - for loyalty), i would go on but this might be my 11th answer which means i would be typing all this for nothing
