I see some people just have a picture of an object or even just a celebrity.

To show your picture you have to create a 360 page. Go to http://360.yahoo.com and upload some photos.
Then return to http://answers.yahoo.com and go to your Q&A. Click on Edit my profile and there select to show your avatar or your 360 picture.
Note: In order to have a 360 page you have to be 18 or older.

You need to create a profile in Yahoo 360 and then import a picture. From there you can use the picture instead of an avatar.

go to "my q&a" and there is a link you click on to edit your profile. you then tell it to use you yahoo 360 profile picture. you have to be using 360 to do this. it doesn't take long to set up if you do not have a 360 profile.
