Yes. sometimes you have too it saves feelings. Doctors do it all the time and parents do it to their kids and our Government does it. We thin Kennedy was a hero for standing up to Kruschev and the Soviets during the October Missile crisis, only to find out later that they pulled out because he said he would take the nukes out of Turkey. Sometimes the act of not speaking when you should have is as good as any lie.

Lies to protect people could be good, say in case a domestic abuser is looking for his wife and kids. But a lie protecting wanted criminals or people dangerous to themselves or others is not a good idea. Are you talking about those 'little things' called White Lies?

They are still lies and sometimes they are good.

It is a responsibility of Government to maintain secrets and sow some disinformation when failure to do so would result in harm to the people. For example, deceiving enemies as to its methods of detecting enemies, which also requires deceiving the public among which the enemies dwell.

The primary job of Government is to defend the lives of the Citizens, just as it says in the Declaration of Independence.

Wars are fought primarily with ideas and information - rarely with physical violence.

Lies are just a means to obtain POWER.
Communists used to say: "Tell a lie often enough, and people will believe it".
Democrats were sharp enough to put that to good use.
Look at the 9/11 conspiracy theories.
Democrats tell the same lies over, and over, and over, until the ignorant believe them.

Sometimes they are. Life is full of gray areas where we must make decisions that are complex and have multiple implications. That is why a democratically based society must trust in the responsibility and judgment of its leaders. If a significant percentage of people loose faith in their leaders, there is probably a reasonable basis for it.

A lie is a lie. We need the government to lie to protect us. We need to tell our enemies incorrect information so they do not know if we are on to them. If the president is asked about something that is classified, he must lie about it to protect the information.

that's a very dangerous road to start walking down...

many wise men have walked down it with the best intentions, only to turn into dictators...

and a lie is a lie, regardless of it's harm/good...

be careful what you rationalize...

No, because lying is not right and as citizens we should have the right to know what our government is doing.
