I am 35 and used to dress all in black in high school, black hair, black nails, black everything. I still was teased and said that I must be a devil worshiper. Excuse me, but this is a form of expression just like those of you who wore name brand crap. Forms of expression and creativity. Well hun, people are afraid of the unknown. Ignorance is amongst us everywhere.
Be strong and be proud. ** What is emo anyhow**

Its because alot of times, people just don't understand us goths. Not everyone who is classified as "goth" are goths, and not everyone classified as "emo" are emo's.
The best thing though, is to just dress how you want to. If you like the style, then you like the style. Who cares what anyone else thinks?
Its not even always that people don't like goths, its more like...Well, we're sort of a dying breed. I mean, its not every day that you step outside and see someone in bondage pants and a leather corset.
So its not necessairly that we're disliked, its more like we're just not something that people are used to seeing, and in a way, thats the beauty of it.
Think of it like this for a minuet:
Think of a world where everyone looked, acted, talked, and walked EXACTLY the way you do. And then imagine that someone who looked a little different all of a sudden appeared. That person would get comments and odd looks too.
The beauty of your situation though, is that you're free to be yourself. While other people might like necessairly perfer the style, its what you like, and there are a ton of fun things that you can do with it. Have fun with the style. Do some new things with your hair, make a new design with your eyeshadow and eyeliner.
"Goth" is basically just a word. It might not apply to you, but thats okay. And remember, there are thousands of different ways to be a goth, but the most basic thing is to be yourself. Speak your mind, and don't care so much what someone else thinks about you or your style.
Remember this quote: "You laugh because I am different, but I laugh because you are all the same."

Goth in our culture means you wear gothic clothing. There is no other meaning. If you wear goth styled clothing, you are thus goth. I don't generally dislike someone because they wear a lot of black, but really, why do you care? If you do not like being called goth or emo, change your clothing. Not a difficult choice.

People look on Goths with contempt, as they do with Punks. Goths in particular wear all that dark, vampire attire, violet lipstick, capes and stuff... So people are just afraid of other people dressed that way. I have Goth friends, and even though they dress in black, they smile, have a job and lead a nice life. But hey, those dark attires can frighten anyone and provoke a certain mistrust.
It is just that people do not take the opportunity to explore a Goth's soul, her beliefs, ideas and system of values. Goths are not given the opportunity to demonstrate what a wonderful soul hides behind that dark costume.

'Cause they're close-minded and only look at the appearance. Ur young (very young) so have fun with fashion. If dressing in Goth style makes u feel awesome then do it!!! Don't let others tell u to dress like such and such. Lastly, don't let others tell u that it's not "normal" 'cause what's normal for others might not be normal to u and vice versa.

some of them are strange. thats all. I'm not saying you are, but many of them are, so when they see the way you dress, they immediately assume you're strange like some goths, instead of getting to know you first. they are judging you by your looks and what you wear instead of your personality. which maybe somewhat understandable, (i mean sometimes goths are so creepy, the morbid attitude, the obssesions with death, the black makeup) but its still not fair to you. this is just a gentle suggestion, but you may want to dress less "gothic" not saying you should totally change yourself, and definitely not to please other ppl, just if you can find other things you like to wear, wear them. just think about it. if you're really set on wearing goth clothes, then, wear them. but dont complain too much about other ppl, there is nothing you can do to change them/their reaction, or if there is, complaining to other ppl sure isn't the answer, although those ppl who dont like goths are being very unfair. hope i helped. peace.

People figure you are what you dress like- if your clothing style does not fit your personality , change it. If it does, then that's okay too. I don't "get" the predjudice against goths, either. I think there is a misconception that "altkids"(better?) are troubled or what have you, but it's not true in most cases- just ignore them...

I am sorry youre sad.
Ok, if you wear black clothing that brings many things to people's minds... like are you a goth? are you a witch? are you satanic?
Black has always brought that kind of thought, i think you dont have to care what other people say... Black is a sad color, and it remembers people of death, night, sadness, etc., but that's just them, if you feel happy being like that, then whose problem is it?
dont worry.

to most people all the word "goth" describes is girls and guys who dress out in mostly black. they mean nothing more by it and that is why you get called that and it is hideous on many people who dress that way but there is nothing wrong with it. what is annoying is how people who dress out in all black tend to only hang with others who dress the exact same way and yet if someone asks then why they wear all black they respond by talking about their individual style and how they want to be unique. i think most people who dress that way are trying desperately to fit in and think they can automatically be accepted by one certain crowd by doing so. but that is just most. it doesn't describe everyone.
