A complete myth? Oh, Your off to a good start. I am starting to think you may be a bit stuck up. I have never met a Britt, but I do like the accent, and not because I think it is sexy, it is just different then ours.
I think you will be accepted with much curiosity and will have to be prepared to talk about yourself frequently.
I think you already have a good sense of humor and should do well here.

Americans typically think of Brits as Americans with a cool accent. No probs that I can tell, though there may be some jokes about Blair being Bush's puppet or puppy on a leash, however I'm sure you guys have thrown a few of those jokes too, lol! Don't worry, Americans are too focused on dark-skinned foreigners with accents who may or may not be potential terrorists (origin doesn't matter as they really can't tell one from another anyways) to worry about an Englishman.
Safe journeys!

Where in the US are you moving to? In Los Angeles we have so many cultures and lifestyles that you'd hardly stand out.
-If you're moving to a backwoods area of Kentucky then you'd stand out. Large urban areas such as New York, Phoenix, Miami, Philly, etc are receptive and open to the English.
-On the east coast many people travel to Europe every summer because airfares are dirt cheap!
-I know there's a steretype that English people are into punk rock, smoke and wild. Others say that British humor is dry. Most people out west (California, Arizona) are easy going, while people who live on the East Coast are conservative, serious and don't open up to strangers as easily.

I'm actually a terrible Anglophile and at the moment even watching the BBC. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Brits, and anyone who would criticize you is simply ignorant and judgmental toward anyone for any reason. Keep in mind that many Americans have English blood in them, after all we defected. Welcome aboard, and if you can stand Us, then more power to you.

I don't think anyone will bring up the tea thing, hon.
When you first move here, there will probably be a lot of "culture" questions because most Americans don't travel abroad. Beyond that, I doubt anyone will make a big deal about it.

To me, it doesn't matter where you are from or what you look like or how you talk, it's who you are inside, you must be a little self conscious about moving here and the type of people Americans are if you are asking a question like this

Most Americans think Brits are good people. I was married to one for almost 11 years; we lived in both the UK and the US. People we met always loved my ex's accent and particular British mannerisms.
Welcome to the USA! Hope you enjoy yourself!

I think I would like to give you the answer that you seek, but I don't really know that. If you come with a positive attitude, I'm sure your new neighbors and colleagues will respond accordingly. Most of us are a decent lot. I hope you find yourself welcome.
