Problem: A coolant leak near the Throttle Body area of the Upper Intake Manifold. The leak maybe internal or external.

Test & Fix: Pressure test the cooling system. Check for a coolant leak near the Throttle Body area of the Upper Intake Manifold. If a leak is present, the Intake Manifold and gaskets will need to be replaced. General Motors has produced TSB # 01-06-01-007A, which states that the Upper Intake Manifold gasket material degrades around the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve stove pipe area. It recommends that both the Upper and Lower Intake Manifold and gaskets be replaced. However, it has been our experience that only the Upper Intake Manifold and gaskets need to be replaced to properly repair the leak.

probably not starting because the cylinder is full of coolant

It is either the throttle body gasket leaking, or the intake manifold has burnt through at the EGR passage. If it is locked up and won't turn over, the cylinders are full of coolant. If you try to start it in this condition, usually the starter will break at the drive end. This is a common problem with 3800 engines.Pull the spark plugs and look for coolant before you try to start it.
