I have a 2001 dark blue Mustang. When I first got it, it was brand new and the paint condition was good. However, a few years ago my sister hit a trailer hitch. No dent, but it knocked paint off on the front[about the size of a license plate]. Then I have gotten other minor scratches and one little chunk of paint knocked off the rear bumper as well.

I already know I am taking it to the Ford factory to paint it, but I want to know which is cheaper/better.

- Getting the large chunks fixed and removing all those scratches[theres quite a few all over the car] Also, how do they get those out?[side question]

- Repainting it in the same color

- Getting it painted a whole new color[black]

What's the price difference for all 3[approximately] & what should I do?

Depending on how deep the scratches are If they aren't all the way down into the metal they can be buffed out. They use a compound and a buffer that basically heats the clear coat up and smothes the scratches out. I work at a ford store you can usually just have your bumpers painted which would save you alot of money. Painting it a different color can get very expensive, because they will have to paint in the door jams under the hood etc. I would stick with the original color. Hope this helps. All ford stores have experienced body shops not all charge the same shop around for the best price.

Well, if you take it to Ford, you will pay the highest price. Aftermarket painters will beat their prices like you won't believe. Just see what kind of work they do and how busy they are. Also check and see how long vehicles have been on their lot waiting. They can take care of scratches. They use bondo. They can make it look new. If you have dents, they will "pull" them out and then finish up with bondo and sanding. No problem. They can even match your paint color and so can just paint the damaged panels.

Definitely, Stay with your original color. You can't go wrong.
If you have the car painted, it will be considerably cheaper to stay with the original blue. That saves a lot of detailing.
I wish I could tell you about the price, but it has been years since I had a car painted. It was expensive.

changing the color is expensive, they must paint the door jams, the hood and trunk underside and jams, and in most cases the dash board, as far as repair over a paint job, it depends on the condition of the paint and the amount of damage to the old paint. so repair or paint the same color is your real options, and there are too many variables with out seeing the car.

repainting entire car same color is about 3,000 or so cause they will want to fix any dings and all the scratches....whole new color your looking at closer to 4,000.....paint front and back bumper and fixing scratches(assuming they don't go down to primer)1,500 or so....if scratches go down to primer you'll have to repaint everything anyway....
