This is hard for me to answer, because I'm totally fragmented!
The upside is: There's always something in which I'm interested, &/or truly love to do; also get to know more people into different things. Downside: I don't focus enough on my "profession" to get the $$ I could if I were more productive. Still, it all evens out I guess. The choices you gave are up to the individual. You have a great weekend too, & a wonderful life...

I think a well-rounded person would have general knowledge of many skills - and incidentally would make a lot of use of them.
In my own life, I seem to have gravitated to have just one skill. I am grateful that that skill has become well educated through many many years. But I feel that I have missed out on a lot by sticking to this one path only, and perhaps would not advise that.

For me, concentrating on one thing has never been a good fit with my type of intellect. What I mean is that everything has interest for me, so I indulge in a smorgasbord of learning. I truly hope I never entirely grow up, because my wonder at the scope of this world and existence is a trait I cherish very highly in myself . So for me, having knowledge of lots of things is the way to live for me.

life can ask much of you. it's rare that just one skill is enough to get you by, no matter how proficient at it someone is. to me, it would be more useful to know enough about a large number of things... we wear many hats in life: father, mother, homemaker, sister, chauffeur, remodeler, gardener, cook... the list is long.
general knowledge about 'many' skills seems like it would be better to make for a well-rounded (and more interesting) person, rather than being adept at just one thing. a jack of all trades is ready for almost anything... a specialist is 'all thumbs' when out of their comfort zone.

I am a jack of all trades and master of none. I don't have the personality to be the absolute best at anything, so I just do the best I can at anything that holds my interest at the moment.

I would absolutely love to be a master of one thing, than know just enough to get my in trouble about alot of things!
I just don't have the discipline to persevere in one subject, I keep getting sidetracked by a million other interesting "projects"...

It depends on what you choose to do. Generalists tend to be field administators while specialists are the technicians and scientists.

To be functional in life, one needs to have knowledge of all essential things that denote survival. Any subject is however a great ocean... the more you dive the deeper it is.
