We are taught how to think, what to see, what to believe. If people are not sold out to one thing, it is another. I just want to see what others are thinking, because i am curious. Isn't the truth much harder to get at then what you are fed?

A proper exposure to God and religion can help to counteract the brainwashing that popular culture is constantly throwing at all of us in books, movies, TV, songs, advertisements, and even video games.

Popular culture is constantly bombarding us with intensive, not-so-forcible indoctrination, aimed at setting up worldly convictions and attitudes.

Popular culture comes at us from all directions including books, movies, TV, songs, advertisements, video games and even the Internet.

A few of the these immoral values include:
- Lust and Sex (outside of marriage)
- A disrespect for God and religion
- A disrespect for lawful authority
- A disrespect for our human dignity
- Envy, greed and consumerism
- Anger and Violence
- Drugs including smoking and alcohol
- Vanity, outside is more important than inside
- Prejudice and hate

I think that if we expose our children to all this immorality without the moral anchor of God and religion "until they can come to a conclusion of their own" then we would be unwise, irresponsible, and frequently too late.

With love in Christ.

From the perspective of one who is a US citizen, I don't think a whole lot of people really realize this. News is very much filtered and one-sided, and much of what goes on in the world is omitted as if it doesn't exist (e.g. the genocide in Darfur).

Murderers and their court trials are sensationalized (like Scott Peterson) to distract us from what we should be paying attention to - the failed war in Iraq, the economy, global warming and the changes that are causing natural disasters, or the fact that more and more of our children in the US are illiterate and can't pass a high school exit exam, more US citizens are without health insurance than ever before.

I think the majority of people are "sheep" so yes, I agree with you - the truth is much harder to get at when you are "fed."

brainwashing?!?! i think thats too harsh of a word yes we are influenced by culture to dress and listen to certain types of music.... but thats not really brainwashing

seriously if you want to see some type of brainwashing....go join a terrorist group, or sum type of racist groups like the skinheads or KKK and then see how much they have been brainwashed to believe that all other races and religions are the devil

i think that what you are calling being brainwashed is just a trend... people follow the norm because thats what everyone says is the best so they do it... trends come up about every 10 years and only last about 10 years

people are not sold out to things, they do things that they enjoy doing... i dont think they have been brainwashed or forced to do anything that they do...they do it because they like it

for example no one has threatened us or used any type of pyhscological stuff to make people want to listen to rap music....it just because its a trend

Exactly! I isolate myself from allot of things that many people find entertaining. In reality most people are addicted to entertainment in one form or another. When you stop the constant inflow of media and gossip, you're brain can then make sense of the stuff you are seeing and hearing. You learn how unimportant entertainment is, and how damaging it can be. I rarely go to any kind of concerts or shows.I don't care about sports, or hit TV shows or blockbuster movies. Myspace or anything like it is a royal waste of time. And I have lots of fun doing things that involve some effort. Your brain is like a muscle, never challenge it and it will get really weak.

Good question. I sort of agree with you, but I think that a person should always look at all the angles of everything before they do anything anyways. Not just take something by face value.

I am assuming you are American. It sounds like the American culture to me. I don't think that most people understand the brainwashing that is going on.

Be glad that you are observant of it.

Most brainwashed people don't realize it, but for the people who actually take the time to think and form their own opinion, they see what is happening.

Yeah, but unless you plan to move to a deserted island what are you going to do about it?

I have a 7 y/o, if she thinks it eases her ability to make friends and be liked (in this jaded world) I'll buy her the cool jeans with the flowers on them.

I know a mother who won't, her child feels out of place and left out a lot.

Is it worth it make the child feel like an outsider? I don't think so.

That's why I follow my heart and couldn't care less about society. As long as someone has a good set of moral values then who cares what the rest of the world tells them to do?
