This is a good question, and one that I think I can answer. I don't play mind games, because I don't like them being played on me. I have experienced times when that attitude came across to people who didn't know me as rude, but I don't really care about what those people perceive me to be. As for friends and family....I have to admit that I'm not close enough to my family to know for sure, but friends....my friends know me better. If they think I play mind games with them, then they are not truly my friends. I hope that answers your question...it's the best way I can explain it from my point of view.

The line is thin. A lot depends on how you deliver it. Humor covers a lot of ills. Some people, though, are defensive to the slightest criticism. Speaking in a soft civil tone will help deflate your audience. Stick to what needs to be said. Don't allow yourself to drift off onto secondary issues. Say what you need to say before allowing the other person to speak to maintain your train of thought. Be open for rebuttal. Hope this is helpful.

Depends on who you are talking to. The line is very thin by the way, but if they are your friends and family, they should know you well enough to distinguish between the two.

the difference to me is being rude is an outright intention to offend the person with whom you are speaking while taking care of business is simply putting it out there the way it is

The line although thin is often crossed for good reason. Even when its done, they will get over it once they see the cause was good.
