Remove the louvered cover across the top of the unit and you will see the two Phillips screws(one on each side) that hold the unit fast to the cabinet. Once removed the unit tilts down and unhooks from the cabinet frame. Have an extra pair of hands to control the tilting and lifting for the unhooking. Be sure that you have unplugged the power cord and it is free to be pulled through the hole in the bottom of the cabinet above the microwave

I recently had to remove a GE Spacesaver JVM-152K 003. After removing the top fascia I found the wiring diagram and technical data sheets in a small envelope presumably left by the original installer. The TDS included the removal instructions which I repeat below.

Unlike more recent OTR microwaves which hook onto a bracket located along the bottom edge of the oven, the JVM-152 (and presumably the JVM-150, JVM-153, and JVM-172 models) are supported by a bracket with two arms that extend along the upper right and left sides of the oven. Once the top damper assembly is removed along with any ducting, the oven simply slid straight out.

GE Spacesaver OTR microwave JVM-152K-003 uninstall instructions:

Removing oven from wall (2 people required)

Oven is supported by a wall bracket with 2 support arms and 3 cabinet bolts.

CAUTION - Oven weights (sic) 66 lbs. Requires 2 people for removal.

1. Disconnect power. Top vented models - disconnect duct and remove damper assembly.
2. Remove top cabinet bolts.
3. Pull unit forward slowly providing adequate support to prevnt dropping unit when it slides off support arms.

I just removed a JVM240WV this evening and the one important bit missed out is to remove the filters from the bottom and check that someone has run a couple of screws through the back of the cabinet into the wall.

Makes all the difference ;-)

Alot of microwave rangehoods have bolts that screw into the top of the unit frominside the cabinet above it. Then they are hung onto a wall bracket. Be carefull when you unbolt the unit, they aren't real heavy, but you should have another set of hands to be safe. The unit is usually just plugged into a wall socket inside the cabinet also. Good luck

The GE DVM 1600 spacermaker microwave Made in 1981 is an early design with an outer case, instead of a bracket, that is lag screwed to the wall studs. To remove microwave: Unplug and remove 4 bolts from floor of cabinet above. Remove screws holding plastic grill along top. Remove grill. Remove two screws, one at each upper corner that hold the unit to the case... Then remove three screws along bottom under door, that also hold unit to case. Then oven unit will slide out from case. Then remove lag bolts holding case to wall. ... Builder Brown

didnt the new one come with instructions??? there are probably 2 bots in the cabinet above the microwave, remove them, the back is most likely resting on a slide plate, just lift it off that. then unplug.
