I'm pretty proficient with excel but I need help on something. I have to do an X-Y plot. I'm plotting averages of certain multiple trials, but I also have to calculate the standard deviation and the standard error of the individual trials and apply error bars to the graphs. Does anyone know a quick way to do this in excel? Or any tips other than doin this manually?

In excel go to help and type standard deviation. There are two functions that you can use, stdev or stdeva. One is for use with a sample, and one is used for use with a complete set.

The easiest way is probably to use a column for standard deviation and another column for standard error. Use the forlmulas to calculate the first one in each column and then copy to the next columns. Go to the website below for discussion and Excel Spreadsheet example.
