Maybe it should have a big screen, about 17''...

You are right, you want a big screen. But I would want a 19inch, and that does not come on a laptop. So maybe you should get a separate 19inch Flat Panel for your regular workspace. Look at the deals at http://www.newegg.com I just bought a 19inch at Staples for $199. That was a clear case of hitting the EASY BUTTON.

Good luck

These people are BSing you. There is no mac version of autocad. And that is one app you do not want to run through virtual PC.

Get a PC, since windows has been running Photoshop for the past decade, you won't have any problems. First priority has got to be screen resolution, look for a laptop with UXGA and second priority - ram, at least 2 gb.

Wait until Microsoft Vista comes out then buy a Vaio with Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. Vista is going to optimize multimedia and the core 2 processor is easily capable of handle all high priority programs.

To date, apple has not produced a chip that will counter act the Core 2. Neither has AMD. Of course Apple doesn't need computers anymore. They have the Ipod to make money. And AMD... well, they're falling by the wayside because they don't have the financial resources.

message me if you have a specific question from here. (I sell comps at Costco Wholesale.)

You should get the computer Hollywood uses for all CGI Animations... The computer MADE for Autocad... Yep, an Apple. They can handle the more graphic intense programs without all the bugs that a Windows invironment provides. Not knocking Windows, ;-), but Apples do graphics BEST! A painter doesn't paint canvases with crayons, he uses oil-based paints. An Apple is oil-based... :-) good luck and happy hunting

when you run a dtp, cad or graphic software, make sure you get at least 1gb of ram and a powerful processor like centrino duo or above. a separate graphic accelerator with a separate memory is important with at least 256mb of memory. you must have a plenty hard drive space, at least 80gb, the smallest! make sure you configure your installation and virtual memory space (at least 3000mb of virtual memory) on your hard drive separately. this will improve your system performance significantly. screen size is not that important. you can use 15" internal laptop screen. if you got a bigger screen of course it'll be better, who doesn't want that. you can buy external monitor or connect your laptop to your wide screen tv. the most important thing in choosing the right machine for computer aided design or graphic software are the performance and the right hardware combination.

Go Apple, no doubt in my mind. They are winning awards all over and many comparisions are finding them cheaper and with more features then Dell.

I have one, love their support. No problems, no viruses, no blue screen of death. A stable operating system, You can still even run windows on it, though I can't see why someone would want to.

BTW- Vista looks a lot like Apples current OS. If you wait a few months, they will be replacing Tiger (the one that Vista is based on) with Leopard, which is new and better.
