First try putting a hot compress on your neck, this can be done very simply by taking a face towel and soaking it in as hot a water as you can tolerate, put it in a plastic bag, then put it on your neck and leave it there. After repeating this several times, try massaging the painful area to work out the stiff muscle. You can also use an over the counter analgesic ( used for arthritis pain ) to help with the pain. These come in an ointment form that you would rub into the skin in the affected area. Hope this helps give you some relief and that you have a wonderful night.

Several times a day use resistance against the sides, front and back of your head with your hand (for about a count of 30 seconds in each direction at a time), plus over the counter pain reliever like Advil/Motrin. Avoid holding a phone to your ear for the duration as you'll tend to crane your neck when doing so. It can take 2-4 weeks to get over a strained neck.

Stand in the shower and let warm water run on it, or use another form of moist heat. Take some Advil.
