How big is this tree? You say "chop down" Do you mean with an axe? I would use a saw. A sharp, large-toothed, curved blade pruning saw is easy to use. I wouldn't bother with a chain saw for one tree unless that tree were really huge .If the tree is large, cut off some of the branches first. Start sawing on the upper side of the branch. When you go for the main trunk, cut a notch about as deep as 1/4 the trunk's diameter on the side in which you want the tree to fall. Depending upon the size of the tree, you may want to tie some ropes to help to control the direction of the fall Saw through the trunk horizontally opposite the notch and about an inch or two higher than the notch. Many kinds of trees tend to grow back after they have been cut down. If you don't want this to happen, cover the stump with something to block out the light.

Web info says that these only get 15 feet high. Use a pruning saw, or better yet, rent a chain saw. Make sure you will not impact wires, vehicles or man-made structures.

Disposal will be more of an issue than falling it.
