LADY Diana who? Mitford? It is very disappointing when people ask questions and they don't even know the proper name or title of the person they are asking about.
Incidentally - "wether" is a castrated ram. And it should be "you're".
We had a PRINCESS Diana die fairly recently, and loads of people cried about that. We always have a wave of hysterical pseudo mourning when mentally impaired public figures who have sex with all and sundry die. It is a kind of British thing.
However, it's always sad when a young person dies in tragic circumstances, no matter who they are.

No.
And I am simply amazed how the world mourned this woman who was essentially a celebrity, but only a few days later, when Mother Teresa died, there was so little media attention and outpouring of world sorrow.
I'm not Catholic...not even Christian.
But compare the two.
Who really helped people in need and who was just another pretty face?
But I suppose that is the way today's world is...most of you would rather watch "American Idol" than try to help solve the problems in the world.

No, did I heck!!!! The only thing I felt sad for were the pathetic outpourings and faux grief that seemed to encompass the entire nation. Not to mention the waste of money and resources used in the floral tributes. That money could have been collected and sent to Diana's charities.
The whole thing smacked of pompous, crass bulls*it and highlighted the feeble minds of the majority of the nation. And the Elton John record topped it all off.

I'm a man; and yes, I did. I felt very sorry for Princess Di for having led a life during her marriage that was undoubtedly luxurious but very, very unhappy. In that respect she reminded me of another lady, mentioned in the next paragraph.
I notice that your "avatar," a word I'd never heard of before joining this Yahoo Answers thing, strongly resembles Marilyn Monroe. I was driving back to Chicago from Greenfield Village just outside Detroit on a beautiful, sunny, Sunday morning in the first week of August, 1962, preparing to go back for my third year of law school after standing up for one of my college fraternity brothers who was married in the little Henry Ford Chapel in Greenfield Village the previous day, with the top down in my black '61 T-Bird convertible with a white top and red leather interior that I loved more than any other car I've ever owned before or since and wish that I still had today, when I heard on the radio that MM had been found dead by her housekeeper earlier that morning. I admit that I shed a few then and there for Norma Jean as well, as I have a number of times since then, and as I did for President John F. Kennedy and his widow and children the following year.
I believe that most American men of my generation had a soft spot in our hearts for Marilyn and grieved for her long after her death.

No. I did not know the lady and felt absolutely nothing, apart from feeling a few minute's sympathy for her immediate family. I found the public outpourings of grief hard to understand given that thousands of men, women and children are suffering in rich and poor countries alike from injustice and poverty.

I didn't cry but even so, I was incredibly sad, especially when I thought about her boys and then seeing them at the church and funeral service. It's always sad to lose a loved one, and this car accident was horrific. Also, they had to suffer in the public eye although there was such amazing public support perhaps that gave the boys comfort. So, I don't think tears went down my face but I was very, very sad.

I'm a woman and yes, I did cry. I was living in France at the time and the French who seem to value our Royal Family as much as we do, were just as emotional and possibly felt it more keenly as it happened in their country.
