Yes the Police can pretty much go thru everything of yours, your home and cell phone conversations can be listened on to make sure you're not talking about bombs or anything like that
They can read youre e-mails, instant messages, text, and so on. Everything like that is saved on a server at the companies.
And if you visit a gun website more than a few times then I do believe that the police track down where you live or they just block your IP Address from being able to visit that page.
I think the police/government can even zoom in with cameras, and see whats going on around your home.
Remember this the police can pretty much watch your every move so becareful.
I might be wrong but we had a discussion about this in one of my classes last year.

Sorry to say that this is the price one has to pay living in the United States. Violation of your rights to privacy. (Only in the United States after 9/11).
If you live where I live they the police would have to go to court an appear before a judge to prove why the judge should issue a warrant to have your telephone tapped, or monitor your pc an if they want the tapes from your ISP, they would also be required to have a valid warrant plus be quite specific in the nature or the area they want to see.

Of course.
There could be dangerous fundamentalists texting each other.
They need a way to keep track of them, and what they are up to.
Tool to fight terrorism.
European countries got the same sort of thing, according to the news last year - in the wake of the London subway/bus bombings and Paris-suburbs-burning riots.
Cell phone text messages have to be stored on servers for a certain number of years, just in case there is an interest in looking up what was said later on.
