The good or bad luck they possess is dependent on where you live in the world. In Britain and Japan, having a black cat cross your path, is considered good luck, whereas if you live in the USA or several European countries, it is bad luck to have a black cat walk by.
Good luck associated with black cats include:
-Possessing a black cat.
-Having a black cat greet you at a door.
-Having a black cat enter your home.
-Meeting three black cats in succession.
-Touching a black cat.
Bad luck associated with black cats include:
-Meeting a black cat early in the morning.
-Having a black cat turn its back on you.
-Scaring or driving away a black cat from your property.
-Walking under a ladder after a black cat has walked underneath it

If you believe its bad luck you are giving negative power to your thoughts and if something bad does happen you'll end up believe in it...have you ever wonder if its bad luck for a black cat if a person crosses its path???

Though the first answer is by far the best answer, even in Britain it's generally considered to be bad luck, because of the American media.
Though I seem to have neither good or bad luck, even owning a black cat as I do.

It is said that if a black cat crosses your path, then it is bad luck but those are just superstitions. It has never been proved by scientists and my cat is black and he doesn't bring bad luck!

I really hope not cause I have lived with one for the past 7 years..
But I dont think its been all that unlucky. in that 7 years time I landed a great job, bought a house and a great vehicle (both mega cheap)
Have recieved a hefty raise every year!...If anything I'd say my big fat ALL black cat is very much good luck! and yes he is always crossing my path...or just laying in it!

It depends on whether you mean bad luck for you or the cat and the circumstances. I can't see it affecting me if a black cat walked in front of me. However it could be bad luck for the cat if I was driving a car at the time.....

Cats have nothing to do with luck. So neither, technically. But as far as I know, the superstition is that a black cat crossing your path is bad luck.

I've always been told that it was bad luck however most cats run from you so if one crosses your path I'd say its lucky.
