Just had the oil changed and when I stepped on the gas pedal, the engine revved at a higher pitch than normal. It kinda sounds like the way a lawn mower engine does when you open up its throttle - is something similar going on with my car's engine? What could cause this?

UPDATE: Thanks everyone. The oil level is properly full (whew) if anything perhaps a bit over the fill line. Any other reason the enigine might sound I'm not sure how to describe it, but noisier, louder, higher pitched...?

are you sure you aren't just hearing things. Do you have a rpm gauge in your car if so is it reading higher than normal. I have had a piece of rag stuck in the intake from when they checked the air filter before and it made the air flow sensor read false and therefore the engine rev-ed up higher. oother than that maybe they left the air flow sensor unplugged. But the check engine light would normally come on for that. Not quite sure what to tell you. Check the sensors to make sure they are plugged in and maybe open the air filter box and make sure nothing is in ther obstructing it.

Just had the oil changed and it sounds different?

That doesn' t sound good at all.

Something is very wrong. Check the oil level. IF it is too low the shop didn't fill it properly. Call them and tell them to bring some to the house because you shouldn't drive it. If the engine is ruined you need to get someone you trust to look at the car now. You may have to exert pressure on the shop to make it right.

Good luck

Check the oil level. If it is ok, they may have put the wrong viscosity of oil in your car. Check the owner's manual and see what weight of oil you are supposed to have, and then ask them what they put in. Many new cars take 5w20 or 5w30. If they put in too heavy of oil it can damage your engine.

From the indications you stated formerly on in the query i presumed It develop into the rapid. on previous automobiles, or perhaps new automobiles while the rapid gets previous it will make diverse noises. (The sound of a jet engine is often linked with a rapid spinning as much as velocity.) as long as a results of fact the noise isnt getting gradually worse you shouldnt hassle. yet once you already know somebody who ought to check out the rapid seals for leaking,(despite in case you need to pay him) and the turbine for shaft play it may be money nicely spent. (in the form that it desires changing)
