and your boss gives you forty dollars to put into the box truck your driving for the company, but you only put in $20 and pocket the other $20 and give him the reciept for the $40 dollars..................is that wrong?

Yes, that's stealing because your boss gave it to you for the company truck and you took some for yourself and then lied about it.
If there was nothing wrong with it, why give him the receipt for $40?

of-course it's wrong. because those 40$ are not your paycheck ,they're from the Boss ( belong to the company ) to be put in the company's truck ( consider it a safe).
