Place called Tobermory in Scotland on the isle of Mull and yes the houses are painted in various assorted colours. It's very nice I would recommend a visit if you are interested.

Tobermory in Mull, Scotland. The buildings are real except for the nursery scenes from the programme which are done in a studio and Archies Castle which is actually Fenton Tower in North Berwick. The buildings are actually coloured like the programme.

Tobermory, on the Isle of Mull was selected for the Children's T.V programme Balamory, because of its beautiful location, and, more importantly, its multi-coloured houses. The theme of the programme is based around what happens in and around each coloured house.
