Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Some posters here has proved your very point. Everyone wants to believe that this nations is one big melting pot where everyone gets along. Jim Crow will never be gotten out of the building, because as soon as you get him to the lobby, someone like the Gaede twins invite him back in, and others(not all)just ignore it. To speak of it causes it to be or keeps it going is about as stupid as saying if I do not agree with the doctors that I have a cancer, it will not eventually kill me. Just because you care to ignore it, or attack the messenger does not make it go away or not be what it is. No one wants to admit it exist, against African Americans, Native Americans, Hispanics and others because that would taint the party. Make this nation seem like all the others that is suppose to be superior to. Race in this nation is like going to a BBQ and seeing a 23ft anaconda loose near the kids' play area with a bulge in it's middle and an empty stroller. You can pretty much speculate what happened but everyone is too afraid to ask "why is this snake here, and is someone missing a kid?" Because it might ruin it for everyone. Maybe we can ignore everything else too, and they will go away. Teen pregnacy...ignore the fact that the belly gets big, just say it was excess weight that miraculously goes away after 9 months. Drug use? Ignore that too. All our troubles will just go away if we don't admit it is there. Some people would rather hide in the closet rather than face up to the facts.

Because it's better to try to ignore racism and let go of hate than it is to keep stirring the kettle to constantly keep the problem boiling. I'm white. Not really but no one would know the difference! I look like my Dad :) (he came from a beautiful family so I am lucky). My mothers side of the family was Native American. Should I be angry at my Dad's family because they are white (like me) or should I let it go and enjoy all sides of the family and forget racism. I prefer to enjoy all my heritage and just be one of the crowd. Am I a racist? Not at all. I think if we got out the spray paint and painted all mankind purple, we'd still have problems, but not because of a difference of skin color. Different cultures have different ideas and customs. Human nature being what it is makes us a bit afraid of anyone or anything different... So even if we were all the same color, we'd find a few here and there that would act different towards the blonds in the group, or the ones with red hair, or those with a different accent. Why do some blacks act as though racism against whites doesn't exist anymore? I have no idea but I see it often. Why do Latins ignore racism against blacks and whites and act as if it doesn't exist? I have no idea. On and on we could go. I see racism in every culture and do not consider it to be strictly a 'white' problem.

Why is it that everytime a white person doesn't like something it has to be turned into a race issue? Maybe your just a jerk and what color you are has nothing to do with it. Trust me white people experience racism too. The difference is alot of you people hate whites not for what they have done now.....but for what some did ages and ages ago and it seems no matter what we do it's never enough. You act like white people never get treated unfairly at a job or overlooked because they aren't the "right" color, or denied anything. We have poor people too. There are white people I can't stand too. Some people in all colors are simply not very nice people. No one race is 100% perfect. I don't like rap music. Personal preference.....but no, I must be racist. But I happen to love jazz.....now what? I happen to love that phrase "you go girl", but if your white and say that your a "wanna be". I mean there doesn't seem to be anything a white person can do anymore that they aren't creamed for. What are "they" doing in our neighborhood? Hey you don't know me and yet I can walk through a mall and have some Latino guy flip me off and I haven't done anything but be there and be white. You ram carts up my *** and can't even say excuse me. So ya...racism is alive and well.....just take a real honest look at who is really being racist. Or before you start accusing "racism" why don't you give people the right to just not like something or stand up for what they beleive in or have a different opinion. It's not all about "race" everytime. It's an easy excuse and one that's thrown about way too freely. Everytime you say "those whites" or "those Angelos" or "those Europeans"......you too are being racist. It's not a 1 way street here folks.

Thankyou for asking this! I've often wondered about this, how anyone can truly say that racism doesn't exist and can honestly say that minorities have the same opportunities as whites. That's just untrue on so many levels! As for the answer, well I have no idea. :) I think that many people choose not to see it or they may not be exposed to it. I know that I really wasn't exposed to it (although I never claimed that racism doesn't exist) until I met my Mexican fiancee almost 5 years ago. Since meeting him my eyes have been opened up quite a bit when it comes to racism. I'm a sociology minor and one of my teachers very strongly believes that sometime in the near future caucasions will become a minority within the U.S., so that will be interesting to see.

Many people who do not themselves experience racism, sexism, classism, homophobia, etc have a hard time understanding that these patterns of inequality continue to exist. Basically, the mindset is "if it doesn't happen to me, it doesn't happen to anyone" or "if I don't see it, it doesn't exist". White people are not the only people who have this mistaken impression; there are also members of ethnic, racial, religious, and sexual minorities who do not personally feel discriminated against and therefore believe that others must not experience discrimination either.
More to the point of your question, though, there are a lot of white people (a complicated and poorly defined category in itself, but we'll let that go for now) who deny that racism exists because they do not want to believe that they themselves might be racist or socialized in a racist society. Some people (erroneously) interpret the reasonable proposition that "racism continues to exist" to be an accusation that "all white people are racists" and become overly defensive and even more blinded to the systematic forms of discrimination that do continue to pervade our culture. Instead of reflecting on themselves and the norms they may have internalized throughout their lives, some white people take the whole issue of racism and reorient it as some sort of personal attack. And, of course, this helps absolutely nothing!

B/c ppl like you are the reason racism exists...you bring it up ALL the time!!! When black ppl point it out every single day well hell no racism wont get any better. But i'll guarantee this, there are WAY more racist black ppl that ive met in my life than white. Organizations like the NAACP are the reason racism exists, filing grievances for any and every black man although what had been done to them was maybe deserved, they dont care all they see is color and they see a way to try to get back at "whitey". This is racist. Black history month, BET, the NAACP Awards. If white ppl had white history month or the white entertainment television or some kind of "white only" awards everyone would call us racists but if black ppl do it then they are trying to "help". What a load of crap. Its rules and regulations such as professional sport teams HAVE to interview a black man even though the man they WANT to hire and have already made their decision upon is white. Thats more degrading to go into an interview knowing there's no chance that you'll get hired. Its ppl like you who ask this stupid question.
RACISM WILL ALWAYS EXIST. In every single aspect. Whites will hate blacks, blacks will hate whites...get over it. The day we realize that is the day it will get better. Get over it!! Its human nature to think that their race/gender/hair color/eye color/style/everything is superior to anyone elses. Get a freakin clue...

There are really several answers to this question. Because all people have different world views, the easiest thing to do would be to ask the white people/person in question. One reason some people act as though racism doesn't exist is because, as a white person, if racism exists, he/she would have to ask if he/she is in fact a racist him/herself.
In some areas of the country, there is so little diversity that racism doesn't exist. It is hard to discriminate against a minority when one never comes into contact with that minority. If all these people have to go on is television, where most of the time things are fun and friendly, then to them racism doesn't exist.
For others, because racism doesn't exist in their own circle, it doesn't exist to them.
Personally, I don't deny the existence of racism. As a white person born and raised (and still living) in Detroit, the country's highest black to white ratio metropolitan city, I was far too often the victim of racism against whites to ignore its existence. In dealing with people from the suburbs with regard to my inner city experiences, I was far too often reminded of racism against blacks. This was a long response. Hopefully something in it will help.

How about a taste of reality. I'm white and guess what? I DON'T LIKE BLACK PEOPLE. I can be a racist if I want so long as I don't hurt anyone. I'd never disrespect you and yours in public. I'll always be courteous and kind, but I will continue to do my damdest to not rub shoulders with your kind... No law can tell me to like you and or be your friend. Oh, and BTW - Your question is big part of the reason why I don't like black people anymore. I'm sick and tired of you all and your racism talk...
One more thing, In the USA whites are the majority and we let you live here. YOU ARE SO SO SO lucky you get to live in the land where whites are the majority. You should be thanking whites that we enslaved you and you got to become apart of America.

Because for some of us, the only racism that has existed is the racism that Blacks have dragged with them. Personally, most of the Black people I know who rail about racism are more racist than I have ever been. My family have never owned slaves, the Civil War was two generations old when my ancestors came to these shores, most of the prejudice they and I knew was directed towards us, and still I meet Blacks who think I own them an apology or I should defer to them because of wrongs committed by others. So I ask you, who is the racist?

I don't think Whites are the only group that ignores racism. Certain people in each group also focuses too much on the matter. People forget about racism because it seems that it doesn't occur as often as it used to but, unfortunatley, it is still a problem and all races should acknowledge that.
