My boyfriend and I are going on vacation to Hawaii. We reside in Oregon and have decided that this will be the perfect opportunity to elope. We were planning on having a friend who is an ordained minister marry us and we have 2 witnessess, but I'm a bit stumped.

If we were to get married in Hawaii, can we only get a Hawaiian marraige license? Or can we apply for an Oregon license and perform the actual marraige in Hawaii? Any good links guys??

Thanks!

the minister will sign the marriage license and when you get home you will have to mail them to the address on the envelope and they will send the certificates to you at your address..

To the best of my knowledge, you have to obtain a marriage license in the county and state that you intend to get married in. For example, if you get a marriage certificate in Multnomah County, OR, it is only valid in that county.

My friends got married in Hawai`i last year and had to wait until they got out there to get their marriage license. Since a lot of weddings take place in Hawai`i, the turnaround is very quick...my friends were able to get their license on the day of their wedding with no problem. Do not have any links, but from experience. My brother and sister in law lived in Tx and wanted a Vegas wedding, not fly by night, actual wedding, and they made them wait and fly down ahead of the guest to get it in the state they were actually getting married in.

Licensesed issued an any state of the U.S. are legal in any state. However if you get married in another state and want to divorce it will cost you more to file in a state other than the one you got your license in.
