It is a gas floor furnace. I have little the pilot numerous amounts of times, and it keeps staying on and then it goes out. The gas valve won't turn on.

If the pilot light won't stay lit, it may be the thermocouple.
That is the metal tube that the pilot light keeps hot.
It generates a small electrical charge that goes up the wire to the valve.
They thermocouple usually will screw in to the valve and clip on to the pilot light. You can get a new one at most hardware stores, Home Deopt, Lowes, Coast To Coast, Ace Hardware, etc.
If you're a renter, the landlord should probably replace it.

depending on the age of yor furnace i would say its the gas valve.. ive run into this problem before...if the furnace is over 15 years old... its not running effienctly..probably about 60 per cent or less..

a gas valve installed maybe would cost about 400 or so including labour but not tax....

Best would be to call your local gas company and have them check it out. They normally do this for free, as it could be a safety issue.

Try a new thermo-couple, if that does not work change the gas valve.
